About This Safari
The Northern Circuit route is the newest route to climb Kilimanjaro. The route is unique as you hike via the quiet, still rather unknown northern side of the mountain. You will see Mount Kilimanjaro from a whole new perspective!
The hikes per day on the Northern Circuit route are relatively short. This gives your body enough time to recover. In addition, the Northern Circuit route is good for acclimatization, as it is a relatively long climb (in days). Your body has more time to get used to the daily increase in altitude.
The entire ascent (including descent) via the Northern Circuit Route takes 8 days.

Practical Information
Best Time to Climb
The best times to climb Kilimanjaro are during the January to March and June to October seasons, when conditions are generally drier, skies are clearer, and trekking is more comfortable.
Route Overview
The Northern Circuit is Kilimanjaro's newest and longest route, approaching the mountain from the west before circling the remote northern slopes. It offers exceptional scenery, fewer crowds, and one of the highest summit success rates on the mountain.
Fitness Requirements
A good level of physical fitness is recommended. Although the climb is non-technical, hikers should be prepared for long trekking days, steep ascents, and high-altitude conditions.
Altitude and Acclimatization
The extended 10-day itinerary allows for gradual acclimatization, giving climbers more time to adapt to the altitude. This significantly improves comfort and increases the likelihood of reaching the summit successfully.
Accommodation
Accommodation is provided in mountain tents throughout the trek. Camps are strategically located to support acclimatization while offering spectacular views of Kilimanjaro and the surrounding wilderness.
Trekking Crew
Your expedition is supported by a professional team of certified mountain guides, porters, and cooks who ensure your safety, comfort, and success throughout the climb.
Meals on the Mountain
Freshly prepared meals are served daily and are designed to provide the energy needed for high-altitude trekking. Special dietary requirements can usually be accommodated with advance notice.
Drinking Water
Purified drinking water is provided throughout the trek. Maintaining proper hydration is essential for acclimatization and overall well-being at altitude.
Weather Conditions
Weather varies significantly throughout the climb. Lower elevations are often warm and humid, while summit temperatures can drop well below freezing, particularly during the overnight summit ascent.
Essential Packing List
Recommended items include: Waterproof hiking boots Thermal base layers Warm fleece or down jacket Waterproof jacket and trousers Warm hat, gloves, and neck gaiter Headlamp with spare batteries Trekking poles Sunglasses and sunscreen Daypack and duffel bag Water bottles or hydration system Personal medications and toiletries
Health and Safety
Guides conduct regular health monitoring throughout the climb, including altitude checks. Emergency oxygen and evacuation procedures are available if required.
Summit Night
The final ascent begins around midnight from School Hut Camp. Climbers ascend gradually to Gilman's Point before continuing along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak, arriving in time to witness an unforgettable African sunrise.
Travel Insurance
Comprehensive travel insurance covering trekking up to 6,000 meters altitude and emergency evacuation is strongly recommended.
Tipping Guidelines
Tipping is customary on Kilimanjaro and forms an important part of the mountain crew's income. Tips are generally distributed among guides, cooks, and porters at the end of the trek.
Advantages Of Northern Circuit
The route offers fewer crowds, longer acclimatization, diverse scenery, and outstanding panoramic views, making it one of the best choices for climbers seeking a quieter and more successful summit experience.
Before The Climb
Arriving at least one day before the trek is recommended for a detailed briefing, equipment inspection, and final preparations before heading to the mountain.
After The Climb
Most climbers spend a night in Moshi following the trek to rest, celebrate their achievement, and receive their summit certificate before continuing their travels.
Combine Your Trek with a Safari or Zanzibar
Many travelers choose to complement their Kilimanjaro adventure with a safari in Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire, or Amboseli, or relax on the pristine beaches of Zanzibar after conquering Africa's highest mountain.
