Practical Information
Best time to visit
Zanzibar is a year-round destination, with the best beach weather typically occurring from June to October and December to March. These periods offer sunny days, calm seas, and ideal conditions for swimming and water activities.
What to Pack
Bring lightweight summer clothing, swimwear, sandals, sunglasses, a sun hat, reef-safe sunscreen, and insect repellent. A light cover-up or shawl is recommended when visiting Stone Town and local villages.
Currency & Payments
The local currency is the Tanzanian Shilling (TZS), though US Dollars are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants, and tourism establishments. Credit cards are accepted at most resorts, but carrying some cash is useful for small purchases and tips.
Health & Travel Requirements
Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your travel dates. Consult your healthcare provider regarding recommended vaccinations and malaria prevention before travel.
Beach & Excursion Planning
Tides can significantly affect beach activities on Zanzibar’s east coast, so plan swimming and water excursions accordingly. Popular optional activities include snorkeling, diving, dolphin tours, spice farm visits, dhow cruises, and excursions to nearby islands.
